As life gets busy… I began to learn about these 3 things

Reflections of Year 2020: #workingfromhome (wfh), circuit breaker, lockdowns, the new norm…

As we approach the end of 2020 and with Singapore’s Circuit Breaker Phase II still ongoing, I began to reflect on the things that happened this year.

From starting a new job, to the blurred lines of starting and ending of work (#wfh), to keeping up with daily tasks, to learning and catching up on my training, I began reminiscing on the days where I get to see my colleagues in person everyday. #Just missing the good ol’ on-the-job training sessions. Sometimes, days seemed a lil’ more gloomy with the never-ending, unread emails coming in. Pondering what had happened through the year, it felt like a high-speed chase from the start to the end of 2020.

As life gradually catches up again, I took some time and reflected on the three (3) points that kept me sane.

(1) Gratitude (element: be Wood) (1): From current affairs to the pearls of wisdom from my mentors/friends/teachers: For every challenge we encounter, how would you view it as?

(i) Is this a lesson to learn from?
(ii) Or is there something (from the past or the present) I need to be grateful for?

I believe I viewed my challenges as both (i and ii). For me to endure the unknown and to have some faith, while I still have a job.

(2) Be fluid and adapt to the new norm (element: be Water): Times are not going to be the same anymore.
• I need to unlearn and learn again, and to gain
wisdom.

(3) Last but not least: To Protect our mental health (2,3): The thoughts, internal drive, inspiration, motivation is for us to own.

• To Practice mindfulness:

Whether we decide to take the next right step, be aware on how we may get affected by others’ opinions/actions, have that self-confidence/esteem, learn that new skill, centre our attention on the NOW (not be worried, fearful, angry, regret on the past or the future) can only stem from us – and for us to decide how we like to live our life to be.

How about you? How do you view your life in 2020 to be?

Hope this helps. Stay tuned for the next article!

Take care, and stay safe and healthy!
