Who am i?
How did metaphysics become a part of my life?
I was a Biological Sciences graduate, and I have been working in the Life Science industry since 2013. Being involved in cutting edge technology and research was exciting but I find myself yearning for answers that it sometimes cannot answer.
I have always been interested in both western and Chinese astrology since I was a child. I grew up hearing our elders spoke about selecting good dates for marriage or shifting into a new home, and consulting with a Master to improve the Feng Shui in the home or workplace. And, during the weeks leading up to Chinese New Year, shopping centres would put up exhibits of the annual forecasting of the Chinese zodiac signs. From there, we learn about our prospects for love, wealth and health, according to our birth year.
However, do we actually know what they mean or how accurate can they be?
From 2009 to 2012, I attended a few practitioners’ annual Feng Shui and Astrology talks in Singapore. But, I always had this nagging thought that I was not learning enough despite my studious endeavours. I felt more disappointed when practitioners held back information while others skimmed through their teaching and fervently pushed their followers to purchase their products.
But in 2012, I attended a seminar hosted by a young and eloquent young practitioner named Dato Joey Yap. Interestingly, he discouraged the purchase of any products (and saved my spending of unnecessary money). Unlike the practitioners I met previously, Joey puts in effort to explain the differences between the past and modern application of Chinese astrology. And, he actively dismisses the idea of predicting or “fortune-telling”.
Why would a practitioner of an ancient study do that?
What makes the past and modern application of Chinese astrology so different?
We have come a long way from ancient times in terms of medicine, transport, communication and many other modern breakthroughs (Note: I cannot imagine life without the Internet). We don’t use homing pigeons to communicate anymore or trek through thick forests or desert to get to another city.
Our lives had advanced so much; Chinese astrological concepts should move along with the changes as well. Besides, “fortune-telling” the future is not providing any more or useful information now. With so many opportunities to educate ourselves, we should seek solutions to solve our problems, and not stop and allow one person to tell us that “we are doomed to stay the course that we are born with”.
Why do I want to share my experiences?
What started out as mere curiosity turned into a deeper desire to learn more. So, in 2017, I took a leap of faith and committed my time and studied with Dato Joey Yap and his team. This has certainly opened up my eyes to see the world through different lenses.
In my blog, I will be sharing my personal thoughts and experiences in my metaphysics journey. I will also be sharing some materials, adapted from Dato Joey Yap’s concepts, touching on the basic concepts and the ways the art had undergone its evolution. I have created a glossary page for quick reference to terms that I will be using in my blog.

For now, my writing will primarily be focusing on two areas using the Bazi (八字) technique:
- Level 1: Describes fundamentals, background and structure to know for analysis.
- Level 2: Knowing Thyself and being BETTER everyday with the knowledge you know.
P.S. Under the Blog Page, I’ve also included a category “Glossary of Terms” for your referencing.
I hope that my readers will leave my blog with a new and clearer perspective towards life. And, I look forward to learning from my readers as well.
And, thank you for being here. Let’s learn together.
